Scottish Borders is filled with outdoor activities, historic sites and the fact that Edinburgh is only one hour away. Enjoy the beautiful countryside and make use of your weekends by exploring the Scottish landmarks away from campus. 

Mary Queen of Scots' Visitor Centre

Scotland is filled with historic sites. Head over to the Visitor Centre to learn more about Mary Queen of Scots. Mary spent a month of her life in this sixteenth-century tower house. The house is filled with objects associated with Mary, from textiles to paintings.

Bank Street Gardens

When you need a chilled day away from campus, check out Bank Street Gardens. In spring, the gardens are covered with cherry blossom trees, making the perfect backdrop for a picnic.

Scottish Borders Donkey Sanctuary

This sanctuary was set up to provide a permanent home for donkeys, who are no longer cared for by their owners. Why not support the sanctuary's hard work and destress from your studies at the same time?

It's only a 15 minute drive from campus.

Edinburgh is only an hour train ride away and if you book your tickets in advance, it will only cost you £11. Bargain!

Visit Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and the infamous Elephant House Cafe, where Harry Potter was written. This should definitely be your go-to spot if you want a weekend away. 

Go Ape

Do you love the outdoors? Why not embrace your inner monkey and climb around the tree-tops? Go Ape is a high-ropes course, situated all over the UK. This is a fun way to get your daily exercise in and bond with your flatmates.
