Moving Out of halls: What should I do with all my stuff?
When the time comes to move out of halls and pack up all your things, you'll probably come across stuff you no longer need or don't want to take home with you.
To give you a hand getting rid of things, Heriot-Watt has plenty of solutions to avoid sending it all to landfill.
Some items will be saved and given to new students, some will go to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and others will go to two fantastic causes...The Broomhouse Food Bank and Score Scotland based in Edinburgh.
The Heriot-Watt Chaplaincy team will be collecting any pots and pans alongside other items such as drinking glasses, stationery and cutlery, which will all go to new students next year! If you are leaving early and want to donate your crockery and cutlery, please leave them in the kitchen and mark them 'for chaplaincy'.
Take a look below at what and where you can donate any items you don't need or want anymore...
If you're not familiar with any of the charities that you can donate to, here's a quick look at what they're all about...
Score Scotland is a local organisation in West Edinburgh, who supports and empowers those who are disadvantaged and discriminated against. This year, they are launching a community cupboard and fridge, which will take edible food that would otherwise go to waste and share them. It is designed to minimise food waste while feeding people and supporting the community.
The Broomhouse Food Bank
They offer free packs of food to families and individuals in crisis. Supported by your donations of non-perishable food, they are able to make a difference to families living in poverty in our area.
British Heart Foundation
You've probably seen the clothes banks outside halls - all those donations go into BFH shops around the country and money made is used to fund research to keep hearts beating and blood flowing.
Remember, anything you can contribute goes a long way to helping others!
