Please do not travel this Easter

By HWResLife 27 Mar 2021

Staying on campus this Easter may not be what you had hoped for, as it is often a time to spend at home with family.

However, the latest guidance from The Scottish Government is clear - students should not travel during the Easter break, unless it is for an essential purpose.

The ‘Stay at Home’ order remains in place until at least 2 April. It will then change to ‘Stay Local’. This means that anyone who travels outwith their local council area without a reasonable excuse will be committing an offence.

If you are planning on leaving permanently (with a good reason for doing so), this is permitted.

However under current restrictions any student who wishes to return to campus MUST seek approval from before returning – detailing the essential reason why they must return. This request may be approved or denied.

If you must leave your term-time address for an essential reason you are strongly advised to take two LFD tests, 3 days apart, before travelling. These tests are only if you are NOT displaying any Covid symptoms. They are available on our Edinburgh campus every Monday and Thursday and can be booked through the myHWU student portal.

If your request to return to campus is approved you will also be required to take a PCR test  (as detailed here, within the Testing FAQs) and only travel once you have received a negative result. If you test positive, you must stay where you are and self-isolate.

We understand these restrictions can be difficult, but please act responsibly and within the law this Easter.
