Edinburgh is one of the most lively and historical cities in the UK. There are plenty of activities to do, from hiking, summers festivals, Edinburgh Castle and much more.

We've got 9 of the best places to visit in Edinburgh, it's time to explore your new home town! 

Edinburgh Castle

If history is your thing, then check out Edinburgh Castle in the heart of the city. This is the perfect Scottish landmark to put on your Instagram.

Arthur's Seat

You may have seen this iconic spot in the movie One Day, with Anne Hathaway. It's considered the main peak in the Edinburgh Hills and is an extinct volcano, you can find some great hiking trails here

The Royal Mile 

Head to Edinburgh Old Town and walk up the Royal Mile. This is a steep street lined with traditional pubs, casual eateries and souvenir shops. 

Scottish National Gallery 

If you want to learn about the European masterpieces and Scottish heritage, check out the gallery next to the train station.

Edinburgh Zoo 

Edinburgh Zoo is one of the most famous zoos in the UK. It is the only zoo in the UK to house koalas and polar bears!

Tickets: £20 - ish. Check out the latest ticket prices here, plus, you can use your student discount!

Calton Hill 

Visit the unfinished national monument and take a pic with the great city views. If you fancy a night out on the town, there are plenty of bars and casual eateries surrounding the top of Leith Walk.

Princes Street 

If you're a shopping addict, then this is the spot for you. This is the main shopping street in the city and has an amazing view of Edinburgh Castle!

Edinburgh Dungeon

Do you love a good scare? Head down to the dungeon for an 80-minute tour through 1000 years of Scottish history, via 2 underground rides and 11 live shows. Trust me, this one is worth a visit.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival 

If you are in the city this summer, why not try out the Fringe? Watch comedy shows, live gigs and much more. Although, bear in mind that you have to pay for individual shows.
